Basketball for Kids! (au Francais)

The Prescott Russell Basketball Association (PRBA) operates a Basketball Skills and Fundamentals program (with an emphasis on FUN). This program is designed to teach girls and boys ages 6 to 17 the game of basketball. All practices are held in the Gym at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School and consist of a proper warm-up period, instruction, and usually a scrimmage at the end. During each practice, the players learn drills that improve their skills and knowledge of the sport. These drills are usually disguised as games (some competitive and some non-competitive).

Each player receives a PRBA T-Shirt and weekly practices from September to June. In addition to the weekly practices we try to include the following activities (at no additional cost):

*      Two trips to Carleton University to watch the women’s and men’s varsity teams. Pizza and pop are provided for dinner. Parents and siblings are invited.

*      With the asistance of the Ottawa Carleton Wheelchair Sports Association we will conduct a wheelchair basketball event, where the children and their parents play wheelchair basketball. The wheelchairs will be utilized by St. Thomas Aquinas High School to promote awareness of disabled activities during this week.

*      There will be a weekend Community Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. This is opened to all residents who would like to try wheelchair basketball and is free (a donation to the food bank is requested).  It will likely occur at the begining of November.

*      There will be a Movie Night (basketball themed) along with pizza and drinks.

*      There will be a Basketball Tournament involving the Queenswood Heights Basketball Association (QHBA) and possibly another similar organization. This will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

*      There will be a Basketball Practice held at Carleton University for all Players along with time in the Carleton Pool for Players and their families.

*      There is an End of Year barbeque/pool party (complete with ‘Street Basketball game’) that is held at the end of the season.

The cost of the program will be $55.00 for early registration before July 1st or $65.00 after July 1st (receipts will be given upon payment).
