Written by Assistant Coach Scraps (Emily Rose)
On the weekend of the 8th, the Prescott Russell Basketball Association, also known as P.R.B.A., hosted a wheelchair basketball tournament at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School. Though there were no entry fees, participants were ask to make a small donation to Justin McKenna, a local teen who was in an ATV accident 2 years ago. A basketball signed by all participants it will be presented to Justin. There will also be a raffle during the Wheelchair Challenge at St. Thomas and some of the great prizes included a jersey used by the Canadian Para-Olympic basketball team in Athens! As in past years, players could also bring donations to the food bank, which would later be delivered by the Head Coach, Craig Salmon. The tournament was open to anyone Grade 10 and younger. They were asked to sign up on the P.R.B.A. website before Wednesday, November 6th. There were 33 teams that had signed up, and each played at least 2 games of this exhilarating sport.
The majority of the players had never been in a wheelchair before, and definitely not been asked to attempt a sport in one. With this in mind, many players fell out of the chairs, including assistant coach Smurf (Melissa Descarie). But not to worry, all of the players were instructed on the safety before participation by the assistant coaches. The winner will be announced at the next practice and they will get a huge trophy with their names on it. They will keep this trophy until the next tournament.
So remember to sign up next year folks!

Click the link below in order to sign up for our first Carleton Ravens game.
The game will be held on November 22. Players need to sign up in order to attend and signups will close on November 16th at 5:00pm.
Parents and siblings are invited to attend as well (no cost). There will be no practices on this date. We will meet at St. Thomas at 3:45pm and will leave at 4:00pm SHARP!!! I will supply maps to the parking lot that we use at Carleton University. The pizza and drink will arrive around 4:45pm.
The Women's game will start at 6:00pm and the Men's at 8:00pm. The games should be over by 10:00pm. Since this is quite late for some of our players, please feel free to leave early if you need to.
This event is one of the most expensive that we hold and there is a real cost to our association for the tickets, food and drink. Please make sure that if you sign up your family to attend, that you all attend.
I will be speaking about this event more during our practices. |

Last year everyone was complaining about Coaches Music. In the interest of democracy (and to save my ears from all the whining), each player can chose a song. Depending on the lyrics I will try to locate and compile all the songs into a Practice CD. Click "Practice Music" in Quick Links (left side of front page of portal) and then click NEW and enter in the required info.

Parents please make sure that when you drop off and pick up your child you come into the gym. Last week practice was cancelled with short notice due to the school requiring the use of the gym. By bringing your child into the gym, you can make sure that Practice is still happening. At the end of each Practice there are some short announcements that are given to the Players. While the web site is kept up to date about these, it is sometimes a good idea for you to hear them as well. The Season Schedule is updated by Thursday evening at 9:00pm. If you have any questions please contact Coach Craig.

Please make sure you check the Season Schedule every week. This schedule will show when Practices are scheduled and when they aren't. It will also be updated as soon as possible when there are changes to the schedule. As an example last weeks Junior and Youth practices had to be cancelled due to the school requiring the use of the Gym. This update was posted on Wednesday of last week as soon as I was informed by the school. Please make sure you check the website so that you don't make an unecessary trip. If you have any questions please contact Coach Craig.
